Yes and no. Some do plant it on purpose but most is reseeded by the neighboring plants. It is grown for looks, as a cover crop for weeds and also because vines produce no flowers and therefore the bees have really left Sonoma County wine country. Planting a flowering plant such as mustard allows the bees to remain.
